This was the first painting I did when I arrived in Cairo, however it wasn't until 7 years later that I decided it was finished and conveyed something of the atmosphere of that street that I encountered for the first time. I took a long hard look at this street, I feel I know it well but for those figures we see here in this painting, they probably have spent years and years, maybe a life time pacing up and down this street.
